Q: How are the women facilitated under Article 14 and Article 15 of Indian Constitution ?
Ans: Equality before law
Article 14 embodies the general principles of equality before law and equal protection of laws.
Article 14 of the Constitution of India reads as under: “The State shall not deny to any person equality before the law or the equal protection of the laws within the territory of India.”
Article 15 mentions about the prohibition from discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. Thus under Article 15, women get the protection of discrimination on the ground of sex.
Article 15(1) and 15(2)prohibits the state from discriminating against any citizen only on the basis of any one or more of the aspects such as religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them.
Article 15(3) makes it possible for the state to create special provisions for protecting the interests of women and children.
Article 15(4) capacitates the state to create special arrangements for promoting interests as well as welfare of socially and educationally backward classes of society. So, it will assist to make laws for women of backward classes.
